First of all, let me say that this is one issue where I think MESO-Rx has unanimous bipartisan support - we all think the Anabolic Steroid Control Act sucks; AAS should not be controlled substances nor legally classified similarly to cocaine and heroin.

So, just because the person who signed it into law happened to be a Republican doesn't change the fact that any Democratic President would have done the same thing. The bill, after all, was introduced by Democrats and unanimously supported by both Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate.

The bottom line is the we have zero representation in Congress on the issue. Public, media, and legislator ignorance/hypocrisy still rule the day. Sad...


President Bush Signs the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004

Last Friday, October 22, 2004, President Bush signed the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004 into law. It has been 14 years since anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) were added to the federal schedule of controlled substances placing them in the same legal classification as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines. Regrettably, we are moving backwards rather than making progress in our educational efforts against anabolic steroid ignorance!

The current law further expands the scope of the Anabolic Steroid Control Act to include all prohormone and prosteroid supplements (excluding DHEA, estrogens, progestins, and corticosteroids).

This has removed a loophole that has allowed many bodybuilders and athletes to use hormonal supplements for non-medical uses. The law specifically reclassifies some extremely potent over-the-counter androgens as controlled substances [e.g. 1-dihydrotestosterone (aka. 1-testosterone or 1-AD); 17-a-methyl-1-testosterone (aka M1T); methyldienolone (aka Methyl-D); 17a-methyl-4-hydroxynandrolone (aka M4OHN)]



The criminalization of AAS in 1990 has been a dismal failure. It has dramatically increased the size of the underground black market. The passage of the 2004 Act can reasonably be expected to send many otherwise law-abiding citizens to the black market in their desire to use steroids for non-medical purposes.

The only good news that I can relay at this point is that MESO-Rx will continue in its fight to provide accurate anabolic steroid information to its readers and the internet bodybuilding community. We will continue our efforts fighting the ignorance that continues to be displayed by the public, legislators, the media and health professionals. Also, for those who have enjoyed the freedom to use hormonal products legally and openly with prohormone and prosteroid supplements, you still have approximately 87 days before the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004 is enacted.

As a huge fan of AAS, this disappoints me.....but lets face it guys; the mass public knows nothing about AAS and they never will as the media refuses to report the truth.

Plus, this is an election year. I honestly don't think there is a politician (maybe not even Arnold) who would say "no, AAS are not near as bad as you all think and I"m not gonna enforce these laws". That would be political suicide.

I don't think we can blame any one person for this, but rather the media for publishing bullshit stories and running bullshit "documentaries" that only show one side of the argument.

I don't know about all of them. But I know Ron Paul is a fiscal conservative and supporter of individual rights. So it follows that he would be against anything that expanded the power of the federal government. And the Anabolic Steroid Control Acts of 1990 and 2004 definitely do that. (BTW, I suspect Ron Paul is another conservative that is very critical of Bush's utter lack of fiscal restraint.)

Dennis Kucinich is one of the most liberal voices in Congress and as far as I know still a presidential candidate and a big supporter of alternative health with dietary supplements being a big component of that.

It's funny but Paul and Kucinich probably place themselves at the opposite ends of the political spectrum yet they find common ground in voting against the ASCA of 2004.

I know this has been said before but I can't believe they even have the time to consider fixing this MINOR "problem" with all the other major shit going on in the world. I still don't understand what group is lobbying for this ant-steroid shit. Can someone explain that to me? Who is being so negatively effected by us using steroids that they can get the US gov. to divert money, time and effort away from terrorism, education, poverty, social security, health care, and what not to concentrate on fucking steroids? I don't get it.
