Profiling- let's get real

Does anyone have a problem with profiling? Why don't we encourage profiling more? Why are we checking every 5th person in line at the airports? Who's a bigger terrorist threat: an old black lady with white hair or a 35y/o beard-wearing, robe sporting Arabian dude?

What's wrong with pulling over a black guy with cornrows, a puffy red jacket driving a 75k car in an all white neighborhood? Chances are he's there for some sort of criminal shit.

If I was a cop and I pulled over a carload of long-hairs with a Grateful Dead sticker on the bumper, you bet your ass I'd find a reason to search them for drugs. Why? Because it's almost certain they have them!

260lb, 8% bf, 5'5" guy crossing the border from Mexico? Full cavity search! You think he might be trying to import some steroids?

Let's get real people! All of you hippie ass, goofballs who want to ignore reality for some imaginary utopia can kiss my ass! It isn't hard to look at someone and figure out if they are a criminal or not. Really, it isn't.

...I think it's more important to be out there looking for real criminals than wasting time on some hippies with some weed .... I can understand why the law is there because i know how some cops can take it too far and we do have rights,but it's sad to see people getting away with shit because of it . ..

I don't agree with profiling because everytime I walk into the convenient store they think I'm going to steal something just because I'm black. You don't realize how hard it is being black in a country full of white devils and sheeple.

Thats not profiling, thats peoples personal stereotypes.

I see nothing wrong with letting all the whites, blacks, hispanics and Asians go through airport security with minimal inconvenience. But if you walk in and youre wearing a towel and your wife is covered up from head to toe, then I think you are more than fair game for more extensive searches. Why punish everyone when there is a very small and concentrated group that the vast majority of terrorism stems from? Why should I have to have my carryon bag sniffed for explosives, my shoes scanned and a 2nd metal detector used on me when I am a young white male trying to get home for the holidays? Why does the white/black/Asian woman with 4 obnoxious kids get picked out for extra searches? Why should your grandma get a pat-down at security when she's 90 years old and uses a walker?

If I were a police officer and got a radio call saying "Hispanic male seen fleeing from a store after a robbery," Im damn sure not going to be stopping to interrogate some black guy, white woman or an 8 year old riding his bike. When the terrorists become white or black or Asian, then Ill change my mind. Till then I have no problem singling out the Arabs.

Second Bob...because it has been documented that the terrorists are actively recruiting "normal" civilians that look like you and I. Why coldn't an 80 year old white woman carry a bomb onto a plane. What would happen if that did occur and TSA's reasoning for letting her get thru was "well...she looked harmless." I'm all for searching everyone tring to get on a plane....and I mean everyone.

Perfect example. Last December, myself, my g/f, adn my dad were coming back from Vegas. All of us were going thru the airport in Vegas to our flights (my dad and I never fly together just in case something happened), and we had to go thru about 2-3 metal detectors. We get thru the last one with no problems and my dad says "oh shit....". I looked at him and he was holding his cigar cutter in his hand...it was in his sport coat pocket. The metal detectors NEVER went off and they never searched him. Now, 9/11 was made possible by a couple of fucking pussy ass razors and box cutters. Break a cigar cutter in half and you have 2 razorblades!!!!

I dont know about you guys, but it seems like airline seats keep getting smaller and smaller. Im not overly huge (~240 lbs), but my shoulders fill my seat and encroach into the the seats next to me. Now, its not too bad when I fly with Jewel since she only takes up half a seat to begin with. But if I fly alone and I get stuck next to some 300 pound fat black woman (like I did last year), then its very uncomfortable.

Same thing happened to me bob on my way to Vegas. I'm about 225 lbs., but have really broad shoulders and a braod chest. My girl is tiny. Of course, her and I have the middle and window seat..and she has to have the window seat so she can see the pretty mountains and all.

Anyway, this fucking big fat mammoth negro woman walks on the plane, and the whole time I'm telling heidi "..watch..I guarantee this bitch sits next to me." Heidi started laughing and was like "...nah, she'll sit somewhere else". Sure enough...that fucking bitch plops her big ass down next to me for 6 hours...bitch was sweating the whole time and she smelled like cheese.

I'm a little divided on this issue. I agree with you with regard to Arabs, partly. Obviously, when young middle-eastern men are blowing themselves up. Searching old black women doesn't make much sense. But I believe it's much deeper than that. You've alluded to this fact as well Grizz.

Say, for example, that this 80yo black woman is wearing a large overcoat in the middle of August, in Texas, smells heavily of perfume, and is chanting softly. Do you skip her because she's a black woman? Common sense says no. Profiling says maybe. How about a young middle eastern man who speaks perfect english, is wearing a wife-beater tshirt, with gold chains, and is singing along to Jay-Z on his iPod? Common sense says no. Profiling says maybe.

The problem with profiling in my opinion. Is that while it seems very reasonable when it is discussed by reasonable men, it goes to shit when you put all of these variables in the hands of your average police officer (aka moron). These men, by and large, do not have the ability to make these judgement calls. If they did, there wouldn't be so many policies governing their behavior. On what basis do you profile? If I say to the police. "We're looking for young men aged 18-27, wearing coats, smelling of perfume, and chanting." What do they do when the encounter one of my above examples? They make mistakes. It all goes to shit because they are not capable of making these kinds of judgements. Any profiling system is bound to be horribly flawed.
