Does anyone have any feedback on Adderal, (Positive or Negative). I Would appreciate comments from anyone who has personally used it or their children have used it.
i wouldn't take it unless you want to take it for the rest of your life or having a VERY unpleasant withdrawal. it is an amphetamine mixture and has all of the addictive qualities of amphetamines- i would look at strattera as another option. a lot of people i know also take it recreationally. the only pro is that it will boost coginitve function, but cause tremor, restlessness, sleep disturbances, headaches, dizziness, appetite reduction, irritability, schizophrenic-like symptoms in high doses, and also horrible withdrawal symptoms w/ a very low chance of recovery (10-20% recovery rate, or the % of users that will NOT go back to using it; cocaine has a 70% recovery rate). be careful w/ this one.

I totally agree. Despite its widespread use in medicine today, for the vast majority of people it is a bad idea IMO. I've used lots of adderal in the past. I'm not ADD, I've used it for other reasons, none of them valid. Its use is definitely contraindicated for anyone w/ a history a substance abuse. Even if you have ADD bad enough to need Adderal, you will be on it for the rest of your life or go through amphetamine w/drawals @ some point. Some patients claim they cannot function w/out it. Who's to say if they are reporting reliably or if its just a part of their addiction that they feel this way. I lean towards the latter in the vast majority of cases. Many report that Strattera does not "work" for them. Again, as this is subjective, you cannot be certain if the person is being accurate/reliable or just seeking to continue their addiction to amphetamines. Most of the time they are simply in denial & hopelessly addicted to amphetamines. The only use I can see for it is short term use to increase productivity (i.e. uncommon workload, finals week, etc.). But, that is exactly how amphetamine use starts for many people. Pretty soon, they can't do shit w/out it. So you must be very careful when playing w/ this. I'm trying to stay open minded & refrain from sounding like a hypocrite, but trust me, its best left alone. Amphetamines were never really my thing as they never mix well w/ BB, but they have caused problems in my life, and I have seen them destroy many lives.
Im going to have to disagree with some of this.
It does help cognitive ability, etc... and can be beneficial for school and work.
If it is taken in the proper dose (Say for example that 10mg is optimum dose for someone) it will have many benefits. However, if you exceed that dosage (which is different for everyone) then the benefits decrease (i.e. if you go from 10mg to 15 mg, it may not work as well for you. More does NOT mean better).
It is meant to treat ADD/ADHD (and sometimes for obecity).
As for "tremor, restlessness, sleep disturbances, headaches, dizziness, appetite reduction, irritability, schizophrenic-like symptoms in high doses, and also horrible withdrawal symptoms w/ a very low chance of recovery (10-20% recovery rate, or the % of users that will NOT go back to using it" some of these can/will occur but this is with HIGH DOSES which surely would not be recommended by a doc. so in other words, Dont abuse it, Its not a rec drug. As for the 10 - 20 % chance of recovery rate -- where did you find that? I think you are thinking of Methamphetamines (crank, whatever) which is not the same thing. Both are amphetamines, yes, but adderall isnt cooked in some dirty lab in someones garage.
As with anything, if you use it correctly there is nothing to worry about. If you abuse it, well, thats a different story.
I took it throughout college and it REALLY made a difference. I never got addicted, never felt like I HAD to take it.. I could take it for a whole semester and then go on summer and not take it for months without a second thought.
However, the people that do seem to develop problems with this type of drug are those that abuse other drugs as well.
If you're not meant to take it - dont. Just like anything else. But it sure does help for finals, etc...
I've taken adderall for about 5 years (51 yo) and my 17 year old son does also. It is the best of the ADD drugs and there is no withdrawal. You are tired for 2-3 days after stopping it.
Steterra has a problem similar to limp dick with some non-Test seroids. I had read about the side effect and tried some of my sons Steterra and no more mr. harddy. I stopped after a few weeks.
Adderall helps my workouts and I can definity do more weight then without it. Adderall and a great cycle are a great stack.
I know it helps me at work. I have ADD and I would stare out the window all day without it.
I tried the Straterra but it gave me horrible headaches and a few hours after taking it Id end up taking a 4 hour nap. Killed my sex drive and put me in an all around shitty mood so I quit taking it. I know several people that have had similar reactions.
With the adderall you can take it whenever you need it. But the straterra you have to keep taking it every day for it to keep working.
i agree w/ you somewhat. the recovery rate on meth is 7%- the 10-20% is the nida estimate for amphetamines (based on narc-anon and similar programs). now believe me, i don't take most things nida says to heart, but i know a bunch of people that take this, and use it responsibly, who have suffered from all or at least two or three of the aforementioned sides. you are correct, moderation is the key, but a lot of the people who end up taking it can't quit taking it- they feel like they never get anything done, and thattheir grades go back to pre-adderall levels. most of the doctors that prescribe it keep ramping up the dose after the individual taking it begins to attenuate to it and performance does not continue to increase- 10-15 mg/day is a common starting dose, but most people i know end up being prescribed 60-90 mg/day (hence the 5, 10, 20, and 30 mg tabs). this occurs b/c when individuals taking adderall begin to attenuate to their dosage, they lose the positive effects, so they begin taking more. it has happened to a bunch of my friends, and a lot of these people never touch rec drugs end up acting like complete basket cases at the end of each month when their prescription is up and they can't get any more yet. so the strattera does not work well- i haven't heard much feedback on it- it sounds like a good alterantive (i guess like phen-phen was a good alternative to diet and exercise)
Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. I was affraid of posting, fearing I would get flamed because of the widespread misuse/abuse of Adderal. FYI: I don't plan on using Adderal as a rec drug, I believe I have Adult ADD and plan on making an appointment with a physician in the very near future.
Not a flame bo, but there are many drugs out there that aren't half as bad as Adderal. Talk to your Dr. and make an informed decision. Don't just hop on it because it will make you "feel better". IMO there are way too many people on Drugs like this.
