Amp opener

I bought a amp opener. I must be using it wrong, because the glass vials are breaking worse than if I just use a file. Anyone know of any info on this procedure?

No, you're probably not using it wrong. They just seem to not work well if at all. I've found the best method is to take a butter knife and saw around the neck of the amp (not too hard, but not too soft either) all the way around (360deg) for a minute or two, and the top will pop off perfect nearly every time.

i wrap amps in a towel { thick one} and just snap them good once. i push where the company puts the paint dot on the amp.{indicating where to press}. i didnt use a towel once and the amp smashed and gouged my thumb pretty good. i never seen an amp without this paint dot on it before.

I put a pen cap (Bic,from the Plastic clear pens) over it, and snap. No filing or nothing. Hasn't screwed up yet...

The butter knife with work.I found that a little triagular file from Home Depo or at building supply works wonders. 3-4 bucks

Use the small metal tooth to LIGHTLY/GENTLY score the amp. One or two slow turns will do it. Remember, your not trying to cut the class, just score it so that it snaps around the scored neck.

Never squeeze or man handle the amp.

After you slowly/gently/carefully turn the amp around the metal tooth, extend your arms slightly and separate the top from the bottom.

Example:
With the amp holder still attached, hold the bottom of the amp in one hand, preventing it from moving. Take the thumb and index finger of the other hand and slowly bend the top of the amp toward you, keeping the bottom of the amp from moving.

NEVER SQUEEZE THE AMP HARD OR YOU WILL CRUSH IT.

I concur. I used an amp opener once, and it made the process much more difficult than just cracking the head off with a cotton ball.
