Aldactone is a potassium sparing diuretic, therefore be carefull eating foods high in potassium. The human body normally excretes potassium through the kidneys and when taking aldactone this does not happen. Lasix on the other hand will deplete your potassium levels, therefore you need to eat foods high in potassium. These are the major problems you need to watch for when taking diuretics, due to cardiovascular problems, instead of worrying about getting the flu or something else. Food poisoning has nothing to do with diuretics so you don't have to worry about that. As far as normal doses, I only know medical norms- Aldactone 25-200mg daily, lasix- 20-80mg daily (upper doses are for severe heart failure- to get rid of extra fluid so I would stick to the lower ones). Take the diuretic in the morning.
