I've seen a lot of negative attention placed on
finasteride here at Meso. There is no doubt that
DHT is very important to an active male - especially one who weight trains. I’m aware of all the various benefits of
DHT. If MPB was not a concern I would not want to tinker with it at all. I hesitated upon deciding to take it after reading all about
DHT and the various side effects of
finasteride. Finally I obtained 5mg generic
Proscar (Fincar) for very cheap and began splitting them into 4ths. I have been on this regimen for roughly 2.5 years now. In this time I have done about two steroid cycles. This was what initially caused me to begin finasteride use. I wanted to combat the higher
test levels on a basic
test cycle.
Anyway, I have not noticed any major negative sides. I’m sure my libido would be higher off of it. I’m fairly young still (mid 20’s) so the libido isn’t a major issue (yet). One thing I have noticed is I seem to store more fat on my torso than before, specifically the lower abs. I chalked this up to simply “getting older”. I’m wondering now if it would be easier to maintain that six pack if my
DHT levels were normal. It seems obvious that I would since
DHT is somewhat like a natural anti-estrogen. It could slightly raise
test and therefore cause some to get gyno but this is not related to higher estrogen levels is it? If Im reading correctly finasteride alone shouldn’t increase estrogen by any other mechanism other than possibly increasing serum
testosterone slightly. I suppose lack of
DHT conversion could produce more estrogen conversion too. Luckily, for me, gyno has not been an issue. And the bodyfat thing is really hard to judge. I must say I train and eat much smarter now yet I seem to battle lower torso fat and pec/chest fat much more. Other than that I have always seemed to make good gains and havent noticed feeling weak or anything once I recovered. I feel maybe I have been lucky as far as my experiences with finasteride. I wonder if after taking it I will notice more acne or increased hair loss due to the
DHT rebound. About how long would it take for finasteride to totally clear the system. And then in what time (i know this is totally variable and depening on the person) could one expect
DHT to be at normal levels.
I do feel that finasteride has significantly slowed and/or practically halted my receding hairline - but at what cost. And how much worse could sides get as I age. I really don’t want to head into my 30’s with lower than normal
DHT. I might add that my main problem areas are the frontal hair line (widow's peaks). I have read that finasteride is actually most effective on the crown. Oddly enough I have very little noticeable loss in this area which I find odd. I’m really considering getting off of it and letting nature take its course. It’s a losing battle anyway and it’s only a matter of time. I may reserve finasteride use for only during a
test based cycle. Even then, do you think it would be wise? Im wondering if finasteride has slowed my recovery (in PCT) in the past. My last 12 week cycle seemed to really take its toll on my HPTA. I didn’t bounce back nearly as quick as my first cycle.
Swale, I know you are against finasteride but do you think it is wise to use it only on cycle and a month or so after. Do you think it could hurt recovery? Some have hypothesized (Anthony Roberts) that it could actually benefit the recovery process. Any insight or info on finasteride's role (even if pure speculation) in recovery and overall hormonal state would be appreciated. Also what extra additive to Nizoral are you referring to - azelaic acid? What topical formulations would you recommend? I thought nizoral had been somewhat debunked as of late. Many have since abandoned it as really helping with hair loss. Im thinking of Xandrox ( 5% minoxidil + 5% azelaic acid (anti-
DHT)) or a similair topical formula. Sprio has also come under fire recently as being not as effective as first thought. It smells pretty bad and its a major pain to apply also.
Any members opinions/experiences with finasteride? Anyone have success with topicals only? Any links/studies/info related to legitimate finasteride side effect research or studies would be appreciated. I have browsed the Yahoo groups posts a bit and there seems like an awful lot of things being pinned on finasteride. I haven’t had any of these more serious side effects but I definitely wish my
DHT levels were normal.
