Default for those that are depressed

i started a post regarding depression a few months ago and the respose was overwhelming. this came to no surprise as many bodybuilders started off with very low self esteem making them more likely to suffer from depression. steroids do have an effect on the breain and do seem to provide users with feelings of well being. however,we must be careful and remember that steroids are'nt the cure, they only mask a pre existing condition that requires attention. also, steroids can make some users more depressed. as i reminder,i would like to point out a few ways in which those that are depressed or those that are susceptible to depression can avoid certain situations that can lead them to feeling that way.
1) avoid drugs, especially cocaine. the come down is bad enough for those that don't suffer from depression, one can imagine how bad it is for someone that has it.the depression from using coke can last for a few day,its bad stuff so stay away. also, too much caffeine is a bad idea,1 to 2 cups a day is plenty.
2) stay away from alcohol;alcohol itself is a depressant. after a drink or two, that sligh buzz can turn into a real bad feeling. you will feel weighed down and become very anti-social. at least i do.i even feel it the next day.
3) stay away from negative people. perhaps there are certain groups of people that for whatever reason, leaves you feeling down.
4)this is most important. be yourself,be happy with yourself and don't try to fit in. if you are with a group of friends or aquaintances and they are all at a bar and singing along to some music the dj is spinning;why try and join in if thats not your personality. you may prefer to sit at the bar and have an intelligent conversation with someone, there's no need to try and act like the life of the party if thats not your personality. perhaps your the life of the party at a boxing match or during the day on the beach. trying to fit in is very dangerous. people with depression are by nature, over analystical about themselves which means they are much too critical. sit back, relax and be appreciative for what you have;health, good family,ect.... god gave each and everyone of us a gift and he created each and everyone of us different from the next. so accept who you are, like who you are,and only work on changing things that can be changed. for example,if you are a procrastinator,or unorganized,or perhaps too shy.
now,as for juice, which we all love. coming off is much worse for those that suffer from depression. post cycle blues are an occupational hazzard so to speak so accept it and deal with it accordingly with proper pct. remember, drugs like tren or too much estrogen from high dose cycles can also exascerbate depression so keep that in mind. i hope this thread leads some of you to stop and think and perhaps seek help from a medical professional. depression is a disease and certainly nothing to take lightly. if anyone wants to pm me,feel free.

great post. i do suffer from depression and the above is all correct. stay away from cocaine. it is a real depressant. as for juice, yes on test you will feel great, however coming off is a different story. i was recently on testE/trenE for 7 weeks and i felt so shitty during cycle and after (still have some sides), i was so angry, irritated, etc im already like that so the tren definately magniified it. i do believe my liquidex was fake or severely underdosed because it didnt work to reduce the bloat i had on cycle ,even during a cutting cycle with 6 days cardio a week and a strict diet! then coming off didnt get much better. i felt less angry and irritated, but now had low test and high estro which bloated my face/neck and also made depression worse. im 8 weeks post-cycle and still shut down. sex drive is low, libido low, etc. but i did not do proper PCT. ive only been on nolva for 16 days and starting clomid tomorrow. i sure hope the clomid doesnt depress me either. the truth is, gear can depress you. its alot like cocaine. you take your levels too high and then you crash. with cocaine its dopamine, with gear its your hormones (test, estro, cholestrol, etc). but good post.

Good post. I also suffer from depression and have tried every SSRI with little to no help. Most doctors and therapists say i'm kind of a mystery which just makes things worse because nothing seems to work. I have to accept that I may never feel happy in my life and this is just how it's going to be. Depression meds are kind of like AAS in some ways, they don't work for everyone and that everyone is different and hopefully something better will come along and work for the majority of sufferers.

Has any doctor put you on a regimen that involves taking small amounts of different types of depression meds rather than one dose of a single med? My gp tells me he's had very good results giving a stack of wellbutrin and paxil to patients who are resistant to both of them.

Whenever I get depressed, I deliberately avoid reading the newspaper and watching broadscast news for several days. That seems to help a bit.

SSRI's are not the be all and end all - MAOI's are oftne useful in resistent depression, Nardil, Parnate, Aurorix/Manirex are common names.

Reboxetine works on noradrenalin rather than seretonin, and can be worth a try, as can welbutrin, either alone or with an ssri.

Ask your doctor for a referal to a psychiatrist, they will have more experience in treating resistent depression than aGP.

Seriously guys, are those of you suffering depression/meloncholia/social phobia etc receiving therapy?

There is no stigma in asking for help, and modern medicines can be very helpful with few side effects

I'm borderline bi-polar. I go back and forth. I tried meds and hated them. I took paxil and couldn't get hard. Zoloft made my head spin and feel like I was high or something when I came off it.

Disruptions in emotional well-being, including depression, have been linked to serotonin imbalances/deficiencies in the brain.

Higher endogenous testosterone concentrations have been linked to increased Serotonin(feel good hormone) and lack of serotonin increases aggressive behaviors both in animals and man

Some people are friendly on a cycle of testosterone and some are really agressive, something i can not explain

There are herbal ways to treat depression by increasing serotonin, St. Johns Wort and 5 HTP increase serotonin levels

St. John's wort works to treat depression by increasing serotonin levels

5-HTP has shown a distinct ability to increase serotonin levels

Are you sure that's a good idea? Wouldn't it be better for your mood to make a clean break with her and move on to someone new?

I have written a lot on this topic, here are some random thoughts: Avoid low carb / high protein diets which can negatively impact the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin (a “feel good” brain chemical). Try using stress formula / B-complex vitamins and try HTP supplements. Engage in meditation as it is truly amazing how it can provide a reprieve from negative thoughts (it takes work to get good at it but imagine the power you would have if you could completely stop thinking about certain things at will, gaining complete control over your thoughts, it is VERY powerful).
