I eat tons of green vegges and berries and those things have carbs, but not many. I like to eat berries and cottage cheese. There are a few carbs in that. I eat nuts and pork-skins. I never eat bread or sweets. I add a little BBQ some times to things I grill or other sauces, but not much. My doctor a couple of years ago told me I was pre-diabetic and I shut the carbs down and all my blood sugar issues went away. The key for me was not to try to avoid carbs and fats. By allowing myself to have fats (including saturated, but not trans-fats), I can stick to the diet. I consume red-meat without fear. My cholesterol has improved. After a few weeks my body switched to using fat as it primary energy source and I have never looked back. I have more energy and stamina. Nutrition is like Religion and Politics. People have strong opinions and there is a lot of conflicting data. I am not trying to convert anyone, I just wanted to know if there was anyone else out there that agreed with me. My personal experience has convinced me that low-carb is a healthy way to live. I use to get heartburn and jock-itch all the time. I never get either of those things anymore. I feel like that is my body telling me I am doing something right. I never get sick. M whole house can be sick and I won't get it.. I believe in it.
I would bet you eat more than 50g carbs though.
You must count everything, ketchup, mayo, picante Drinks etc.
Just about everything for flavor has a couple carbs in it.
Even your Peanut Butter (serving size)
Carbs (g)
Peanut butter, chunky style (1 tbsp)
3.5g carbs.

Role model - I might eat more than 50, but I do not think so. I do not eat any sweets, bread or potatoes or other stratches. The only fruits I eat are berries and never a lot. I eat lots of GREEN vegatables. I know I get some sugar in peanut butter, nuts and other things, but it is miniumal. I eat pickles. For example, If my family and I order pizza, I order one for myself and just it the top of it off. The pizza sauce has a little sugar in it and some of it mixes in with the top the pizza, but not much. I am on Kentogentic diet. I am almost alway in ketosis when I check. My body uses kentones as its primary energy source. I dislike ketchup and mustard and mayo have no carbs. I add flavor with horserashish and tabasco sauce mostly. If I use BBQ sauce or other sauces that have sugar in them, I chose the lower sugar versions and use lightly. I have grown acustom to eating this way and it really works for me. It is funny, I actually eat a lot more vegatables this way. I mentioned in another thread that for example, when I go Outback instead of getting fries or a baked potato, I get brocholi or green beans.

Ketosis and bad breath
Do you find that you get bad breath? As you probably know, ketones can be a problem for our breath and our general body odor.
Unfortunately, while we try and get our body in shape on a low carb diet, our breath and general body odor is likely to suffer big time! This is due to the body producing molecules referred to as ketones. They're used to fuel parts of the body that would normally be fueled by simple carbohydrates, such as glucose.

I always have several packs of sugar free gum all ways. I buy by the case. I can definitly notice my breath, but I stay on top of it. I have not noticed body odor. I will ask my wife.

Bubba, I am in no way wanting to debate low carb diet..it just blew me away when you said you were on 50 grams of carbs per day..i was very curios how you were doing this ????Crap..everything just about has carbs in it.When I had to get to 70 grams carbs per day it was freaking ridiculous what i went through..I kept count daily on paper what i consumed..it was crazy. If it works for you more power to you brother ! It worked for me..I dropped 20 lbs in 30 days doing it and looked great..I just would not personally want to live that way.

Dennis - It is a lifestyle change. I do not even refer to as a diet in the same sense as Jenny Craig. It is the way I eat and hopefully forever. That is the plan. I do not eat any sweets, potato chips, or bread. No starches. If you are not eating those things, you are not consuming carbs. I know there are hidden carbs, but I am looking out for those two and try to minimize those carbs by making better choices. I eat nuts and peanut butter and both those things have some carbs, I eat a lot of red meat (I eat a lot of fish and chicken too) and do not avoid fat. I know most people disagree with that. I eat real butter, sour cream and do not buy anything low-fat. Low-fat means...the fat was taken out and replaced with crap carbs. All low-fat version have more carbs than there original whole version. The key for me is the fat because it satiates me. You guys are going to think I am a nut, but I try to get 60% of my calories from fat. It was difficult at first, but now I am use to it. My birthday was 4-1 and I did not even eat any of my birthday cake. My choices are limited, but I have become very creative. Most people believe a person on a low-carb diet only eats greasy food, but I actually eat much more GREEN vegetables because that is what I chose instead of starches Carbs that are not burned turn into fat. Today, I had two boiled eggs for breakfast (I do not wake up hungry). Lunch - Salad with vinaigrette dressing, sirloin steak and broccoli. My wife wanted to go to Outback for dinner so....I had another salad with blue cheese dressing, a N.Y. strip steak with green beans. I worked out today and ate more than I do when I do not work out. My cholesterol has dropped since I started eating this way. If you are interested, google "Second Opinions Barry Groves". Also, there is a book by Gary Taubes called "Good Calorie Bad Calorie" that has ruffled some feathers. That book is packed with document studies and other interesting facts regarding nutrition. Guys that like to read detailed science reports will love the book. Others might find it to detailed. The book is a narrative filled with data. That's my story. I am not trying change anyone, I was just curious if there were in others out there that shared similar views. Brent
