I was being facetious with that statement:
"Of course such “cheating” was unacceptable and the lack of a “level playing field” between police and criminals would not be tolerated."
The tongue-in-cheek may not be obvious if the statement is taken out context.
Here is the context where you can see it was a joking response to a reporter's protestations about police trying to gain an edge over criminals:
