Default Salicylates and DNP

DNP and Salicylates

I want to know your opinions:

Salicylates (like sodium salicylate and acetylsalicylic acid) are known by it ability to uncopuling the oxidative phosphorilation, such as 2,4-dinitrophenol. This may occur with high doses, around 4-8g/day and it is a very commented negative effect of therapies that uses acetylsalic acid in these dosage (like the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis). It's good to remember that the adverse effects of high doses of salicylates (salicylism) are more frequent in dosages above 15g/day.

So, what do you think about the utilization of salicylates in burn fat programs, like a DNP substitute??

Observation: I know that DNP is much more secure than the salicylates, but I want to discuss this possibility.

Thanks!!

You raise a very interesting idea. I was unaware that acetylsalicylic acid, and salicylate in particular, were uncouplers of oxidative phosphorylation. Interestingly, both are cataractogenic via quinone metabolites that are nearly identical.

At first blush, I'd have to say that the toxicity of dosages high enough to elicit a significant thermogenic response would far outweigh the benefits in fat loss. However, that's nothing more than my guess, as I haven't looked into it. I would like to see how the dose needed for thermogensis compares to the dose that's known to be toxic.

Liver toxicity is way too high to elicit a thermogenic response. You'll burn your liver into nothing before you raise a degree. The DNP doesn't have the same toxicity, that's why it's so effective.

This is what I was thinking... considering acetaminophen overdose is treated with NAC. DNP, on the other hand, doesn't appear to have any hepatotoxicity.

Yup but it's also important to note that the DNP is a much more powerful drug as a result of it's main property. The uncoupling effect of the salicylates is very minor, which is why the DNP provides alot more chemical bang for far far less volume.
