Sleeping And Xanax Or Valium

Always been an insomniac just hyper I quess.Its worse when on "cycle" my doctor has prescribed me xanax to sleep.It works quite well,too well, been on it for over a year.just 1 tab at bedtime.Question is does anyone know the long term damage these things can do.Without it I have a hell of time getting 7-8 hours of rest.I'm 42 and they say the older we get the harder it is to sleep.Anyone else having trouble sleeping.Sleep is everything to recuperating.Can't build muscle without rest.I'm on a very light cycle of test right now , damn near HRT type cycle.Even being off I have trouble sleeping and just for the record I'm not depressed.Damn doctors first question they ask....sheeesh

I am the same way and I don't even cycle,but i have always been like that,my doc prescribes me 30mgs valium for use during the day that keeps my anxiety undercontrol.Then to help me sleep I also take a tab of xanax plus OTC sleep-aids.I know that benzodiazepenes can be quite addictive but for the low dose you are taking I don't think it would be that big an issue,I probably would have more of the problem due to the dosages.

I also have trouble sleeping. I use meletonin and it works pretty good. Both valium and xanax are highly addictive. Be careful...

meletonin and Ambium don't help me at all.Took some ambium for a few days and it kept me awake if anything,funny it knocks my wife out cold.I wonder if the xanax has any negative effects on the heart.Thats probably my biggest concern.

I've had the same problem for years.
I gotta tell you Xanax works wonders for me. Just 1 tab (not sure the mg's) and it's good night Irene.
It's the only drug that leaves me feeling good in the morning.
Even Tylenol PM makes me feel like shit!!!
It's probally because Xanax has a half life of 3-4 hrs, so it's out of my system by morning.
Just use it moderately.

i use 1 ambien and 1 .25mg xanax seems to work well for me i'll get about 6hrs of sleep.

well, it might affect the heart. it is a downer, so it may have similar effects as alchohol

Bump for more info on this I am using 20 mgs of valium and a cvs sleep aid to get 8 hours but I do have that hung over feeling the next day...would zanax be a better choice and at what MG's?

For the short term like just as a sleep aid or an anxiety reducer xanax is better because of it' shorter active-life but if you have anxiety problems that are diagnosed valium is a better bet for a more steady longer lasting relaxation aid.

Valium has about a 12 hour life in the system.If not use to it, it can make you slightly groggy the next day.1mg xanax has a 4-6 hour life and I don't feel it the next morning.

Yeah sleep is prioroity in this buisness.No sleep,no recovery = no growth

1mg of Xanax ED isn't going to cause any health problems, but your body is probably addicted to it to some degree (not to much at 1mg). Have you tried 10mg of Ambien? It's less addictive. I take Xanax as need for anxiety and it doesn't help me sleep (although Ativan, Ambien and Halcion do), but that's just me.

1mg of Xanax should work fine, but I'd try 10mg of Ambien first.
