HOUSTON -- A man who was both a law enforcement officer and a Houston firefighter was caught on the wrong side of the law, Local 2 reported Wednesday.

Border Patrol agents in the south Texas town of Progresso said they found close to $12,000 worth of steroids and barbiturates inside Luis Bernal's car during a stop at a border check point.

Bernal, who is also a Harris County Precinct 6 Reserved Deputy Constable, was arrested after Border Patrol agents found $11,750 worth of anabolic steroids and assorted prescription drugs in a wooden chest in his truck.

Bernal has since been relieved of duty from the Houston Fire Department and the Harris County Precinct 6 Constable's Office pending the outcome of a federal investigation.

Like I always say, is America better off with a guy willing to catch REAL criminals and fight fires behind bars or doing his job? If he was smuggling coke that's one thing, but to make a criminal out of a guy who is likely a good, upstanding person for using steroids is sad.

I will say that if removing this guy from his job results in one rapist or murderer not getting caught, or a fire not being put out in time to save someone, then his arrest actually is a detriment to society. Just another innocent person who is going to prison for doing nothing wrong.

And he can't be a fine, upstanding citizen if he's using/selling cocaine? I've done piles of the shit. Nearly all my friends in college have done piles of the shit. A good 50% of the Greek system does piles of the shit(at my alma mater anyhow).

What do we all have in common? We've all done piles of cocaine, gotten a degree and became productive members of society.
