Ive never heard of a foreign-based Customs location. They are usually at major US airports and seaports.

Most major US consulates and Embassies abroad do in fact have US customs representives housed within thier buildings. While these reps (alone) do not have the same powers as they would have in the States, when coupled and teamed with thier local counter parts they do in fact wield quite a bit a power when it comes to investigation, inspection and interrogation. Especially if it involves individuals (of any country) importing or exporting of contraband to or from the USA. I actually just heard about a couple of US customs positions at various shipyards around the world where new offices are being established to "assist" local cutoms agents with inspecting containers before they depart to the USA. US congress has given up billions of dollars to Homeland Security to clamp down on inspections....they will use the money and diversify their portfolio of activities so that the next time they ask congress for money (new budget) they can say, "look at all we have down and all that we are doing please give us some more money". Oh well. |

Dude, the way they are cracking down, who knows if they will examine it again? My guess is if they are truly examining your package, it is gone. They won't bother sending it through. What your note below says doesn't necessarily mean it was examined by customs. I would guess this is moving FEDEX or UPS. When exports are consigned, often " Consignment Held For Inspection By Customs" or something similar simply means the flight hasn't left or the ppwk hasn' been approved. If it says "pending customs exam" when it hits the US, you are screwed. Don't confuse "pending customs release" with "pending customs exam" Good luck...if you have any other customs questions, let me know |
