Fine for importing steroids - $4000 - NEWS.com.au Fine for importing steroids NEWS.com.au, Australia - 9 hours ago A 38-year-old man has been ordered to pay more than $4000 in fines and court costs for failing to tell the Australian Customs Services he was carrying the steroids DHEA. Graham Maifredi, from Euramo in far north Queensland, was convicted in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday of making a false statement to Customs officers and importing a prohibited substance. He was stopped by officers at the Cairns International Airport late last year and found to be carrying 60 capsules of DHEA, or Dehydroepiandrosterone. Customs director regional Queensland Andrew Hosking said that while DHEA was legal in some countries, its importation into Australia was restricted and required previous approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). "This week's penalty should also serve as a warning to those considering buying such substances over the Internet," he said. "If in doubt, it pays to check with Customs first."
