“There’s no reason for a male athlete to take (HCG) other than masking that he’s taking steroids,” said Dr. Chris Geary, an orthopedic surgeon dealing with sports medicine at Tufts Medical Center. “It has to do with the ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone (a natural steroid) and if someone goes above a certain ratio, it’s pretty considerable they are taking anabolic agents. HCG can normalize the ratios so it looks like you’re not taking (anything).” ...
