We are all complicit in the steroid scandals

I thought Phil Rogers put all the 'righteous indignation" over baseball's real or alleged steroids use to rest with his Sunday column.

In short, everyone knew it was going on when it was going on and did nothing about it when it mattered. Consequently, everyone's to blame -- so let's get off our soapboxes and get on with life.

Now the furor rises again with "lawyers in the know" saying Sammy Sosa tested positive in 2003 when over a 1000 players agreed to be tested provided that the results were kept secret. The inability of the union and organized baseball to keep the results secret, violates the spirit in which that testing was conducted. It's possible federal prosecutors, in their zeal to convict Barry Bonds, were complicit in leaking this information, which adds another whiff of cynicism to the whole mess.

As far as Sosa is concerned, the big question, now, isn't whether he used or didn't use steroids, but whether he lied to Congress. And if, as it appears he did lie, did he because he was advised to, based upon that agreement of anonymity the players' union stated was a requirement for testing in the first place?
