I suggest not timing yourself or worrying about it that much.. just take what you need to catch your breath... Maybe they have a set time limit between sets for the 5X5 but i never saw it . If i were to guess,i would say i take about 3 min sometimes 5 but i also do sets back to back sometimes .. alot of times actually but different muscle groups. .. like i'll do a set of bench and then walk over and do some calfs, maybe do a set of weighted crunches because those machines are close together. For example i was doing Squats today with incline benches. I would finish a set of squats and then take about 1 min walking over to the bench and do a set of those and walk back. When i get to my last 2-3 sets the weight is packed and it takes it's toll on me so i need more time even when going to different muscle groups. That's basically how i get in so much in only 20min

generally speaking, when you're trying to build strength and muscle mass, 3 minutes between "big" exercises (rows, deadlifts, chins, presses). If you do foo-foo shit like DB laterals and curls and whatnot, go ahead and take 60-90 seconds or so

I personally take up to 5 mins for squats in the last 2 weeks of my loading. But anywhere from 1-5 mins is fine. Whatever it takes to get the sets done.
