Default back pain

I have an unbeleiveable pain in my back right between my shoulder blades. I'm not sure but it might be due to too much weight doing shrugs(230#). Been very sore and not getting any better for about 8 days now. has anyone ever experienced this before or is it just me. Ice and / or heat dont realy make much of a difference. Any other advice? Thanks

A few months back, I did something screwy in the gym (probably half-assed my warmup), and my upper mid back was sore, then real sore, then f'n paralyzed over three days. After a week I still couldn't move.

Without getting into the arguements over Chiropractors vs. Physical therapists (I've been too shitty versions of both), a guy I know sent me to this young Chiro. Since alot of guys who lift already have a good feel for thier body, I think they are good in moderation. Two or three visits and I couldn't believe how great I felt.

I also took Naproxen (the active ingredient in Aleeve - Wal Mart sales generic), twice the recommended dose, twice a day w/ food. A Doc told me thats all they'd really prescribe. I took that for four days, it knocked inflamation out. (Keep icing too, I don't do any heat.)

Felt great ever since, so i don't go to Chiro., and don't take Naproxen, I think too much of either is bad.

Good Luck.

I seem to get tendonitis quite often in elbows and rotator cuff. Do you suppose upper back tendonitis is a possibility! I hope not because healing is a long slow process.

Without seeing your form on shrugs is difficult to say. It could just be a sprained/pulled muscle. I quite often get the muscle between my shoulder blade and spine sore (not the lat, under the lat i think). It seems to happen for no reason at all, sleeping funny or something i guess. I just have to stretch and try and let it sort itself out. The back is delicate though so a visit to the doc could be worth while.

Sounds like a pinched nerve and like thegame said try a chiropractor they can work wonders on pinched nerves. After 8 days its not a muscle, if its a sharp pain its a pinched nerve. The longer you wait the more damage it can do to the nerve and muscles. Regular Dr.'s can't do jack shit for a pinched nerve except give you muscle relaxors which 95% of the time don't work.

I injured my trap one day maybe 10 years ago, and you know what? It's still hurting to this day. I've gotten at least 3 opinions on it, and it's my cervical spine. Compression, straightening of it, and spurs = nearly constant pain. The doctor told me to go easy, and gave me narcotics. I go easy, and stay away from the happy pills, and it seems to help. Of course the trade off is my traps lag behind... of course AAS have helped somewhat

Maybe I can help...

What kind of pain are you having? Constant numbness? Aching? Occasional sharp pains?

Any pain with certain movements? Lifting arm overhead? pain with shrugs?

any increase in pain with neck movements? Move your head up and down, side/side.

Well its been over a month now and the pain is very slowly getting a little better. Shrugs are still impossible, carrying a dumbell hurts and side to side head turning causes pain between the shoulder blades. Thanks

From what I see, since your injury is primarly caused by forcefully depressing the scapula and lengthening the upper trap and levator. As a result with 230 pounds, you're pulling on tissues that can't lengthen any further, causing lots of microscopic tears......

My question is this Mr. Joe Chop..... how is your posture every day? Is it slumped? How are you sitting while you are reading this? Are your shoulder blades pinched back? If your posture is poor, the healing process will be prolonged due to excessive stretching of upper thoracic tissues.

Remedy.......
Do a Google Search on Upper Trap and Levator Scapula Stretch. Do these stretches 3-4 times daily.
