Default Best routine for starting after a long layoff?

I have always gotten big and especially strong really quickly, using just the same basic (outdated) 2Xweek, per bodypart routine that I did in high school. I have always responded, and I have modified it with age, to try and avoid overtraining. My past few times that I have "gotten back" into the gym I have quickly developed more than your usual aches and pains...tendonitis and general soreness that won't subside in my pec tie in and my biceps & elbows. Would HST be a good idea for someone who is having these problems? It would seem that the gradual move towards heavy weight might give me some structure and provide a good way to gradualy introduce the stress to my body...any thoughts?
