What's the opinion on Cardio? Is it better to do 20 minutes on the elliptical, 20 on the bike and 20 on the treadmill or is 60 minutes on any of the above an equal workout?
Only asking because someone suggested I use all 3 instead of just staying on the elliptical as long.
Thanks
I'm not trying to take over this thread but I have a similar question concerning cardio. Can it be used to gain muscle mass? I have a friend that told me that is supposed to be used that way, and I always saw it as something that hinders my gains.

What is best is what feels good on your joints and what program you enjoy and will stick with.

Interesting question. I think eliptical is most efficiient and easiest on my joints. I can burn 1000 calories on eliptical in 53 mins, level 16, the cross county ski motion type of machine (life fitness, not precor up/down motion), yet I need to exert a greater amount of energy and tire much faster to reach similar calorie output on a treadmill, and then I experience tendonitis problems from running that fast.

Liz you know the answer to this anytime you change up your routine you will be using muscles not normally emphasised and usually get a better result. As for one exercise being better than the others though...not too sure but i think the bike is the weakest of the 3
bike imo is best , because keeps your heart rate on the lower end , and therefore you don't lose muscle mass . 1000 calories in 1 hour is way to much . i do bike like bigbench does sprints ... 30 seconds at high level then 90 at low level ...... bigbench likes 50 meter sprint walk back then repeat and so on , but i believe he goes to 30 meter ones as well , he used the example of a sprinter versus a marathon runner , sprinter has much more mass. my first show i did cross trainer started at 187 weighed in at 134 i ran my muscle right off , but now i compete at middleweight , and do little cardio compared to back then and look way better , but of course diet is better now as well . i know everyone is different , but thats my 2 cents which is about 1.8 cents american
