I have always seemed to have a poor CNS endurance when it comes down to weight lifting. I've been working with the 5x5 and loving it, but today I started off doing squats. I felt like complete crap the whole day, and when I got into the gym I felt like I wasn't mentally all there. I did two sets of Oly Squats and then called it quits....ready to punch someone in the face. What can I do to help stop or at least slow down the occurence of CNS overtraining? My workouts usually last ~1.5hrs, sometimes a little longer. I was thinking of changing it to a 4x5 routine, and cut out squats on Wednesday....simply, it is no longer the 5x5 routine. Do you feel that this will help, or will it not yield much difference? Should I change to higher reps, less sets? This occurred during DFHT as well, just as fast. Cut down on the volume by quite a bit and CNS OT was cut back significantly. I really like the concept and layout of the 5x5 routine however, what good is it if my CNS is fried and I can't even get up to workout? Thanks for any helps folks. |

I have the same problem. Doing 5x5 and I feel like shit in gym. I'm in week 4, and I feel like my strenght decrease (I can't do oly squat with full range of motion). I also can't focus with my mind on workout. Bench is ok for now.

A few weeks ago I got like that. I was doing the intensity phase and then it was like hitting a wall. I starting feeling tired and failing on all my lifts but deads (thought that was weird). I figured fatigue was catching up with me so I totally rested the next week. The week after the rest I felt better and was back to business as usually.

I used to workout hard every day for weeks until i couldn't take anymore then i'd take a week off and not only did i gain size but my strength went up when i got back in the gym. Alot of people do this,i just thought i'd share my story with you :-) ..

It's been a week since you posted this, so hopefully you've heeded the advice, and you're feeling better. I just wanted to add, that if you are using any thermo's for any reason, cut them out as well. They will tax the CNS dramatically as well.
