What are dumbbell flies? Is this some new type of fly species that was unheard of until today? It is flyes, not flies. Not that I really give a sh*t since flyes suck anyway, but just thought I would chime in.

The correct spelling is flys, so far everyone has it wrong so far... A picture is worth a thousand words, seriously, just go to the library and look at the pictures, or a local bookstore. Secondly, do what does feel right. Everyone's body is different. I have a buddy who can kick over his head, who can't understand why everyone can't do it. The body is a complex machine, and everyone is different. Try a light weight and first and get the movement down, for a few workouts. Don't use anything heavy or you will hurt yourself. Flys don't suck, but are a great ancillary exercise, or a good way to perform pre-exhaustion (for those who believe in it... I don't use it personally). Anything that you can do and enjoy that is an exercise, doesn't suck. A lot of powerlifters and certain kinds of folks hate them, and that's fine. My guess is they hate them because they are always done by whimpy gym newbies who think they are exercising, but don't know how to use a heavy weight. It's pretend... if you can't get the basics down, you shouldn't be doing the ancillaries. Ever... Some people prone to shoulder injuries shouldn't do them. It really takes a lot of concentration and knowing your body to get the form right, so from a practical standpoint, because you asked the question, my guess is you shouldn't be doing them. They aren't worth the effort unless you are refining for a contest or doing physical therapy (I like flys because they let me work my chest after a tricep injury). Quote:

Actually, it is dumbbell FLYES! And no matter what you say, they still suck. Since you seem to be into BB'ing, go to bodybuilding.com and they spell it FLYES. I'm sure Arnold's encyclopedia spells it like that, too.

It's commonly spelled Fly's, Flys, Flyes... but not flies, was my point. Didn't care to get into an etymological discussion, as people here flame for any reason they can think of, and get upset over anyone who doesn't think exactly like they do. In all seriousness I think a lot of it has to do with high testosterone, as bodybuilders tend to have high natural rates, or increase those resting rates chemically. But when flamers flame and do so with poor spelling, it's fun to point it out. Anyone hating anything, is a waste of time. I see us all as a brotherhood, self correcting and forgiving. We all know we have too much test in us... (smile) Quote:
