Default Help with front squats

I am trying front squats for the first time on my 5X5 routine on Wednesdays, however, I am having trouble finding a comfortable grip. With crossed arms it feels wobbly and unstable and makes me hesitate about going heavier. If I don't cross the arms it is even more uncomfortable with my hands pressed between my shoulders and the bar. I can't really discern much from the training vids I looked at about the grip. Any thoughts on what the hell I am doing wrong or is it suppose to be like that?

move your hands wider, the bar should rest on your delts, not your hands

holding the bar cross handed, on your delts, is your best bet. stick with it and the stability will come.

Good luck with front squats. I never did like those things, I prefer the old fashion squat myself.

Thanks for all the input.

My set this week seemed a little better so maybe it will get easier. Crossgrip is feeling like the grip for me. They sure do humble you. The hard part is keeping your elbows up as you tire near the last sets.

I can only do the cross armed style. I too have attempted to be the envy of the transexual. And yes, it does give extreme motivation to lift the weight. You will develop your balance soon enough. Just take care to start slowly and not jump too dramatically in weight. This tends to cause you to lean forward whilst attempting to rise. It's key to really focus on keeping your upper body vertical. Otherwise, your shoulders and back will be hurting when you are done.
