Great Post-- I need to start making these regular in my routine. My father competed in my area for years (70's-early 80's)-- I guess deads were one of his staple exercises. He actually had friend who could dead over 950 lbs-- eventually one day it tore one of his biceps- after surgery and recuperation he was right back at it. He said "It's all I know". Hell, let's all work up to half a ton and see if we can have our triceps rip off as well!!

Fear: Man...I know what your sayin'. I've been doin deads regularly for 3 yrs and I've never EVEN seen anyone doing them at my main gym. I'd kill for a DL mentor.

Phreezer: You just helped my form immensley (and saved my lower back). I really did not realize how much hips came into play. Thanks!

Bro, I have the same problem. I am practically the only guy in my gym who deadlifts!

Start off with very light weight (Like around 95lbs or so) and work with that untill you get your form down. Then slowly go up in weight... you'll figure out a weight that you can handle for 3-6 reps.

For beginners, I would recommend traditional pulling over sumo.

Close call, but I think traditional wins that race.
