For me, I initially started hitting the weights in HS for football. After a few years off, went back for vanity reasons, for two more years of lifting. Mostly stayed away from the gym over the course of the following 10-15 years. Returned 5-years ago and haven't looked back. My initial reason for my return was to mentally recover from a very bad relationship. Hitting the weights and eating properly is now a way of life.....to the point that I plan my daily schedule around gym and meal times. I have also introduced strength training to my wife who is squatting, deadlifting, overhead pressing, benching, doing chins, dips and good mornings. She and I get a great deal of mental and physical satisfaction from a good day of throwing iron around and doing other physical activites together.

Dips and good mornings? lol sounds like you guys are messing around a lil b4 the covers come off. thx for the reply, Yeah getting out anger at the gym is the best. But I'll tell you the truth sometimes I get too angry and then it just makes me wish I was home so I can really get some anger out without embaressing myself. |

I'm betting most everyone will have 1 or both of the following reasons......weight training for sport in high school, or to impress women. I'm a both guy. I started with training for sports performance. I then decided to opt out of college sports and focus on the books. I missed the competitiveness of sport, thus got more into the weight training. I found the UG board, and I was hooked. What's odd is that I did get myself up to 230 at one point. Enjoyed it for a bit and loved to get bigger every day. But now, realizing that I'm nearing 30, and that my athletic prowess will only dwindle, I've lost interest in full out BB. Being 230 actually took about 6" off my vertical leap. I now lift for performance reasons, and only want to be as fast and strong as possible, regardless of the weight. That change in focus has brought me back to 200, and my vertical back above 40". |
