if your talking 45 degree one then i dont know...mine is soo fubar it kills my back when i go to heavy..IF and when i do them its usually 8 or 9 plates per side for 8-10 reps but it kills my back cause the padding is all jacked.

leg press max doesn't matter at all. What is everyone's Olympic squat max?

you should never max out on the leg press - it should only be used as an accessory movement occasionally after squats most likely for set in the 8-12 rep range.

Thank you AM....I was going to post something similar, but I thought it would only fuel heated debate over nonsense. Oh, and to answer your question....455 @ 200lb. Probably won't get any higher unless I implement some dedicated powerlifting principles.

Matt
Couple years ago in high school I was pressing ~1300...875 for reps on sets of 4. My Squat was around 640 back then. I got great results from presses by keeping my feet "high" on the platform and focusing on the backside of the legs to finish out each rep. I always liked presses because they were easier on my knees and lower back.

I'm definately with you on using presses as an accessory lift. Squats are second to none.

Default Leg press

So often I see these gym lifters load up the leg press with 8 or more plates on each side and perform a quarter movement. Then they brag about how they leg press 1200 lbs or so....please, some of these guys go so shallow they don't even need to disengage the the locks. The leg press is good if you are unable to squat due to injury or structural problems.

Doesn't matter to who? I'm not competing with anyone. I do legpress after regular and hacks . I was just messing around with 12 plates and i wanted to know if that was alot. .. You mean you never got on a peckdeck just to see if you could do the whole stack? I love those OLY Squats. I go as far down as i can go on legpress hacks and regular squats. It feels so much better for my legs. My knees aren't bad but when i used to go parallel,i felt pressure in my knees when stopping just before going back up. I love the stretch and now i know what my true max is. I'm only using 270 plus whatever the smith machine bar is but i feel my strength going up so that number should be raising very soon

Manwhore - I wasn't really jumping down your throat. My point was this...1) Leg press is twice a sdangerous for the knees than squats and 2) every leg press machine int he world is dramatcally different (flat, 35 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degree, 90 degrees - different sled weight, different range of motion, etc.) - I set the school record in high school on a leg sled with 1800+ pounds, but I'm sure I moved it about 4" - so it's the gayest record I ever set.

It's just impossible to compare the sled at your gym with the sled at any other gym in America.

Matt

ps - and I'm a little irritated over the leg press these days because I'm working as a high school strength and conidtioning coach and when I ask a kid what he squats his response 99% of the time is, "Oh, I'm not very good at squatting, but I leg press 800lbs." Who the f cares?

Thats where your job comes into play. I was one of those kids untill my strength coach got us educated on the importance of Squats, Cleans, and DL's. Your lucky in a way your able to teach these kids at a young age the importance of the Big 3. There are alot of people out there that dont know this and yet alot of people make fun of them or ridicule them because they are not as fortunate as you or me or the others that know the importance of them.

I'd tell you, but then Phreezer would embarass me with his 700lb Oly squat and I would have to leave the board for a couple of days until you all forgot.

Good point Grizz.....however, I've come to grips with the fact that I am but an IP address, which has no pride or sense of shame. Thus, I'll put the numbers up for criticism.

Any exercise that requires moving the whole body through space is better for strength and yes that's a fact but i like to mess around with the legpress. I did 14 plates for a few reps Sat and it made my legs feel pretty good even after regular squats. I never have pain from any exercise or i would stop that exercise,so i doubt the few sets i do on the legpress is going to hurt me. I don't do quarter squats half squats or anything above my ass almost touching the floor or touching the metal plate in the case of legpress. Only a fucking and i say FUCKING RETARD would do a quarter squat with 1200lbs and brag about it. I am so fucking sick of people judging other peoples workouts too. When you go to the gym worry about what the fuck you are doing wrong and stop pointing out what everyone else is doing wrong. People need to do that because i guess it makes them feel they know it all and no one else does. This isn't directed at anyone in general,i'm just so sick and tired of assholes. Unless your the goddamn gym trainer and people are paying you to teach them something, who gives a fuck what other people are doing. .. I'm fucking horny and it's making me so fucking pissed at everything. I wanna kill someone. I hate my damn wife and her complaining all the time,i work 7 days a week now and i need some pussy before i go crazy. I'm going to find a girlfriend. Fuck it i don't care anymore.

Eleventy Billion lbs. Geez you guys are weak!

I don't even do leg press anymore. It's always taken and it's a pain loading up all those plates. Squats, lunges, DL's and Good Mornings are fine for my legs along with various sports throughout the week.

MANWHORE.....sedatives my friend.....she'll never know.
