Way to go. Sounding good to me. You spanked me on the inclines and I am at 183-185lbs. I think I got 245 for maybe 2 reps last time. Just for my information what exercises do you do before you bench? Benching is my weak point so I am thinking I may be changing my lifting order next go round to put benching before rows and see what happens. Deads sound good also. What kind of grip are you using? I have been using alternating grips from day 1 and have not had much trouble with it yet even at 405lbs. I think my calluses kind of help me hold on to the bar better. I don't know what I will do when I need to start using chalk because the new gym I just joined frowns upon it.

MW, Couple things - congrats on the rep PR. Second, if you have to reset your grip, it's fine - I could never pull 600 for multiple reps without resetting grip real quick. Just reset, take another breath and start pulling. That still counts as one set. Third - for God's sake, please don't go out and put gloves on for weightlifting. You can always tell the pussies because they have gloves on. Either buy some chalk and use that, or if your pussy gym won't let you use chalk then buy some liquid chalk and use that. It helps grip a ton and then you won't have to put those feminine pads they call gloves on your hands. AM

Grats on the PRs there moo-whore! ![]() honestly, deadlifts are tougher when you put the bar down and reset your grip. You lose the rebound effect. In other words, if you pull the weight up, go down, touch the ground then immediately go back up again, that is easier than going up, down, release bar, reset grip, then up and down. for your own sake, don't squat with a sore lower back. Please. I second AnimalMass's advice. Get chalk. it is awesome stuff. makes your grip iron, no sliding of the bar. Makes your forearms grow like mad too. If you're going to wear gloves for deadlifting, then you may as well use a puss-pad while you squat as well. |

As far as the gloves,i never thought they would effect my grip strength which is why i used them sometimes for deads. I would never use hooks,a belt,or straps though .. ok now for my shitty squat day. It's hard for me to get used to OLY squates with heavier weight then i was using. Most of the weight seems to go to my lower back after going past parallel. I wasn't happy at all so i ended my workout quik, with 245 for 5 reps going parallel. I didn't even have much time today because i slept late and then i had to clean the house after work so i couldn't get time then. I'm going much lower than i used to and alot lower than all the people i ever saw squat in the gym. It's really messing with my head getting such low weight. It's almost like it's the 1st time i'm ever doing squats. I'm wondering if i should just stick it out with the OLY squats and work up from 225lbs for 4 reps or just go parallel. I know my legs and lower back are pretty strong it's just hard right now for me to get used to going so low. So AM what do you think? Stay with OLY? Go parallel for now until i work weight up a little and then back to OLY? I'm pretty happy with everything else though. thanks for the repys everyone

Who the f cares what your wife thinks? Caluses are evidence of years of hard work in a weight room. Don't let a woman take that away from you. Matt ps - Stay with Olympics Squats - even if you have to go down to 135.

. Boxdeads sound harder since you have to pull it further. I don't make too much noise but then again I got on my head phones.

Build up the caluses! Mine started when I was 5 I think. No, not from weight training. By way of shoveling hog shit and corn. I had the priveledge of growing up on a farm. I have a theory that there is a correlation between caluses and character. But correlation does not equal causation, so exception exists of course. However, a firm hand shake and caluses might be 1:1? |
