Question squats for outside sweep

took some pics today for before and after shot of first HST routine. i looked at my legs and it looks like I am missing a muscle! I have absoulutly no outer sweep on my quads. WTF. i am really worried but is there a sertain way you have to stand in a pose to get them to show up or do i just have really shitty legs . i just started HST squats are my main quad exr. should i stick with them and see what they look like at they end or maybe go to front squats i herd they are really good for the out side sweep.
thanks . later

toes and knees pointed outward. the long head of your quad, the one you inject in is the one that gives you the sweep. unless I'm missing one .......11

that and keep your heels fairly close.

To see what I mean, grab a bar with warm up weight on it and do 20 squats with your feet shoulder width apart. Then put your heels around 4 inches apart (angle toes slightly out) and do 20 reps.
See what areas you feel...it should be pretty obvious. Good luck - big qauds are there for the taking - you just gotta work to get 'em.
Good luck!

PS - so how are you liking HST?

Aside from genetic factors, all of your muscular woes will be solved when you attain an appreciable amount of mass.

It's like the guys who spend all day at the crossover station try to give their "pecs" shape. If they had any pecs to begin with, then they would already have the shape.

Get what I'm saying?

exactly grizz. and to add to this, if you do squats with a very close stance as described above, you WILL end up using far less weight than if you used a normal stance. if you end up using less weight you WILL build less muscle. and that will not give the big vastus lateralis or the sweep that you seek.

get what i'm saying?

Ed Coan gets what you're saying, Chip. He's got some damn decent quads and he squats wide with no less than 600lbs, I would imagine.

crew, i would not mess around with your stance during the HST. You have already determined your maxes based on how you currently are performing your squats. Not discounting Johns advice at all. Just for your situtation, now is not the appropriate time.

It's going well. About 20 more hours a week than I had been told, but that's a good thing. Now I won't be poor white trash. I'll be mediumly affluent white trash. LOL

It's a pretty cool job, all in all. The best part is that they will pay me well if I perform well and there's plenty of room for advancement. Can't complain about that.

I don't want to kill a sacred cow here or speak blasphamy against the iron gods, but you might hip squat. If so, that would justify doing leg press or front squats. For some squats give you just a big butt. We all know the proverbial big assed squat monster with skinny quads and a butt that goes up to his middle back. Don't be that guy.

I'm one of those hip-type squatters and don't have a great outer sweep. I wonder if the two have any correlation? I got my start as a powerlifter, so that's the technique that's most comfortable for me. Now that I'm competing in bb-ing, my ass dominates my turnip quads. Some things that are helping remedy this are front squats, dumbbell sissies (fucking killer), and hacks with my feet toward the bottom of the platform (toes pointed inward). It seems when my toes are pointed outward (as some are suggesting) that targets my vastus medialis rather than the lateralis. Maybe it's just me.

Guy's I think JP was just telling him to do that during a warm up so he could feel the muscle we were talking about he wasn't telling him to squat that way. nor was I, we were talking about posing.......11

That's my theory because I'm one of those guys too. I squated for powerlifting and football and developed a deep squating style. I actually squat more that way instead of going just to parallel. I also developed a bubble butt but look like my tear drops have polio. Not good. Problem is that I hate leg press and gyms. I like to train at home. I have taken my stance in and that helps some if I do high volume on squats with low load around 65% 1rm. If I go heavier than that on squats the butt kicks in and does the work. Front squats are excellant.
