Im pretty sure its a myth. You cant just pick what you want to get. Just as you can't really bite the right or left ear to choose the sex of the child. I think what matters is, do twins run in the family? If so then maybe you will.

Cory, my young friend, if you're going to try to answer questions of a medical nature, you should really do your homework first.

EPower,
Clomid is used by infertility Dr's, to help induce ovulation. It is possible that in a healthy woman with no fertility problems, the chances of twins would be increased. However, clomid for your wife is not something to fool around with on your own. Any consideration of this should be discussed with her ob/gyn. There are possible health hazards for both her and the baby. The studies I've reviewed are inconclusive, in my mind, and I don't believe worth the possible risk.

Clomiphene citrate for unexplained subfertility in women
* Hughes E,

Rm HSC-4F7, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, McMaster University, 1200 Main St West, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, L8N 3Z5
OBJECTIVES: Clomiphene citrate appears to increase ovulation in women with oligo-ovulatory subfertility. It may also work in women with unexplained subfertility, perhaps by correcting an unidentifiable ovulatory dysfunction. The objective of this review was to assess the effects of clomiphene citrate in women with unexplained subfertility. SEARCH STRATEGY: The Cochrane Subfertility Review Group specialised register of controlled trials was searched". SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomised trials of clomiphene citrate (doses of 50 to 250 milligrams per day up to 10 days) compared to placebo or no treatment in women with unexplained subfertility. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Trial quality was assessed and data were extracted independently by two reviewers. MAIN RESULTS: Five studies were included. Four trials were of crossover design, and quality of the randomisation was variable. Compared to placebo, clomiphene citrate was associated with an increase in pregnancy rates. The odds ratio for pregnancy per patient was 2.38 (95% confidence interval 1.22 to 4.62). The odds ratio of pregnancy per cycle was 2.5 (95% confidence interval 1.35 to 4.62).
REVIEWER'S CONCLUSIONS: Clomiphene citrate appears to modestly improve pregnancy rates in women with unexplained subfertility. However adverse effects include a possible ovarian cancer risk and risk of multiple pregnancy.

High frequency of iatrogenic monozygotic twins with administration of clomiphene citrate and a change in chorionicity.

The data of the population-based, prospective survey of multiple births in East Flanders, Belgium, show that a greater proportion of monozygotic twins is observed with clomiphene citrate as sole treatment compared with other ovulatory drugs. Among iatrogenic monozygotic twins, the ratio of monochorionic versus dichorionic pairs is higher compared with spontaneous twins.

I apologize for stating my opinion without searching for medical proofs. Though I still feel it's impossible to choose wether or not you have twins, boys, girls, ect. I do see they have done some studies to investigate the issue thanks to Max Rep.

Max what you posted was very interesting, there were more than only 5 people studied right?

I would have never assumed it was plausable and is very interesting to me so thanks for posting that and sorry once again for my incorrect post.

Oh,

I still say I feel it's impossible because obviously no way of choosing what you want and getting it for sure. But it's cool to read that you can increase the chances.

Cory, no worries buddy.

However, once again, if you would do some research you would find that in Hong Kong, they are doing some interesting work with choosing the sex of the baby. You are right in that nothing's guaranteed.

As far as the studies I posted, those were just two picked out of dozens. There are studies with hundreds of women.

Best regards,
MaxRep

Awesome,

I'm assuming a simply search on google or yahoo will give me plenty of reading to do.
