Default For My Mother

Hi everyone,

I know this is a bit corny but I'd like some input on how to help my mother out with her weight loss.

She's 56-years-old, 5'4 and about 165+ lbs.
She's put on weight very steadily since menopause. I've finally gotten on her about going to the gym. She walks on the treadmill at an incline for about an hour and a half (I told her that was too much). Every now and then she'll jog a little. So of course, she overidid it and came down with bronchitis and developed some asthma. Does anyone think this is in direct relation to working too hard too quickly on the treadmill?

Anyway, I've got her going to the gym but I'm clueless as to what kind of diet I should try and get her on. She's dieting right now.... doesn't eat a lot of junk food.... but certainly doesn't eat enough protien. Her meals consist mostly of snack foods....salad greens w/ carrots & tomatoes, an apple w/ penut butter... granola bar or yogurt for a snack. Stuff like that. Every now and then she'll have salmon for dinner or pasta. But she doesn't eat much.

Also, most if not all of her weight is carried in her midsection. I guess this is common for women her age. And there is no question she is a stressed out woman. She has a stressful job and is the kind of person that usually is going a million miles an hour. Any kind of weight loss supps that contain caffeine are out of the question. And it goes without saying that AAS is also out of the question. I am strongly considering a weight loss aide such as Relacor... because I really think cortisol is a big problem for her... given her stress level and age.

What do you all think? Thanks in advance for any input. This board has been great to me... and I would love to be able to give this gift to my mother and guide her to better health.

Is she on any hormone regulators? That will help out TREMENDOUSLY! If not, she needs to eat just like anyone else trying to lose weight. Get the protein up and lower the carbs (NO sugar at all from any from) and make sure all carbs are "brown" carbs. Get them down to 100grams a day and she should start losing weight asap

LOL. Bench, how did I know you'd be the first one to respond. Thanks man.

I wouldn't know if she's on hormone regulators. I highly doubt she is. She could probably get on some from her doc if I knew what all that entailed. Maybe I could recommend that to her.

What about Relacor bro? Will trying to lower her cortisol levels help her out?

Yea, that def can help. The two biggest factors of fat gain are hormone fluctuation and stress increase. So, if you get her on Relacor, then there would only be one other factor to worry about.

I would be careful supplementing my mom with anything that can mess with hormone function. Even in myself i wouldn't mess around with something that can disrupt my adrenal system. If she does have abnormal cortisol levels leave that to a doctor. I don't know much about relacor, but if it really can lower cortisol levels that can cause serious issues later on if they don't level out.

This isn't corny at all! Since I've began weight training/ bodybuilding the entire family wants to join me from the immediate family to the other relatives and friends. They really can't understand the "mindset' that has to be developed before you start such a life-changing lifestyle. It really upsets me that my mom had a heart attack recently and insists on eating the same way! I''ve bought several memberships for a few that seemed to be serious, but soon dropped out. I bought a treadmill for my mom and placed her on a 2,000 mg calorie diet, but she failed. Now everyone is on the "fat side" and they call me skinny! LOL That's funny as hell!
I wish them luck, but the sad thing is that I'll be going to more funerals in a couples of years.

Thanks for the responses everyone. What exactly is dangerous about lowering cortisol levels? She's just a naturally stressed out person so I wouldn't be surprised that cortisol was playing a part in her fat gain. But I had no idea that there could be serious issues with lowered cortisol levels....

Relacor only lowers abnormaly high cortisol levels and actually binds to it as to not prevent it from existing in the body. Its just a supp, not a prescription. But yea, she should have blood work done to find out if she has ANY real problems going on
