I am looking for some good advice for a friend who has developed some problems over the past few years. We need to get her on a safe diet but something that will bring good results without taking forever. We ar worried that her condition will continue to get worse if something is not done. She is 27 years old 5'7" and weighs 317lbs. She has health issues which are Anemic, high blood pressure, high insulin level, high testosterone. What kind of diet or eating plan can she be put on? She talked to some doctors and got some very negative comments. So i thought i would post on here. CAn somebody please suggest or type out some kind of plan that would good to follow.. We need to get her trimmed up soon so this doesn't get worse. She's too young for this. Thanks |

First i wanted to say thanks for the reply.. So after she has lost weight with this PSMF diet can she adjust the diet to maintain. I was thinking of getting her to taper down to 150 grams protein/ day and approx 75grams carbs/ fish oils as well. What do you think ? thanks |

On the specific diet I outlined, it would be reasonable to expect a loss of 15-35 pounds per month for at least the first few months. If she stayed on it for say 6 months, I wouldnt be at all surprised if she could lose 80-100 pounds. |

OK so what would a day's eating plan look like for her on this diet? 200grams of protein of which sources. should she stay away from red meat? just eat white chicken, egg whites, tuna, nuts , shakes(whey) etc? and for the greens just some lettuce or broccoli? thanks |

Lean meats - chicken/turkey breast (no skin and not lunch meat), tuna, and lean fish (mainly white colored fish). Nuts/seeds dont qualify. Greens - if its leafy and called lettuce, then youre good to go. Red leaf, Boston, iceberg, whatever type of lettuce. With this type diet, it is best to stay away from liquid protein. Calories are so low and protein shakes are digested so quickly that they will do nothing to combat hunger. Real food is definitely the the best way to go. |

What kind of total daily caloric intake are you looking at with a diet like this? What about supplementation of vitamins and minerals? |

As for vitamins and minerals, I just assume that people know enough to take a multivitamin/mineral or two a day. Add in the fish oil and that pretty much covers the basics. |

sounds like a pretty rough diet... I think I'll stick my 1800-2000 cal a day high protein diet for when I want to cut some weight... |

Big guys like you can also use a similar diet with awesome results (read: .5-.9 pounds of FAT LOSS per day). Though with an athlete, refeeds would be necessary, whereas in this situation where a person's health is truly at risk, refeeds wouldnt be necessary nor beneficial. For someone who just wanted to look good and not spend all their life on a diet, a two week PSMF cycle inbetween 2-4 week cycles of "normal" dieting would yield incredible results and cut dieting time dramatically. |
